Hussain Urges Stokes to Reclaim His Batting Form
Nasser Hussain, speaking on the Sky Sports Cricket Podcast, emphasized the need for England Test captain Ben Stokes to revert to his former batting style. England, under the leadership of Brendon McCullum and Stokes, suffered a 4-1 loss in Australia, with their only win coming in a remarkable two-day Boxing Day Test in Melbourne. Stokes acknowledged the past three months as the most challenging period of his captaincy but remains optimistic about the team's potential under the current leadership. However, England has struggled to beat Australia or India in a five-match series since McCullum and Stokes took charge in 2022. Hussain, a former England captain, noted that Stokes had a poor Ashes series but stressed the importance of him focusing on his own game and scoring runs. Hussain praised Stokes as a captain, citing his exceptional leadership skills, but emphasized the need for clarity and a clear message, particularly with regards to the team's playing style. Stokes is currently recovering from facial surgery and is expected to miss the first month of the County Championship season with Durham. England's first Test series of the summer is against New Zealand, starting on June 4, followed by a three-Test contest against Pakistan.
