Hull FC Announces Cartwright's Departure at Season's End

John Cartwright, the current head coach of Hull FC, will be leaving the club at the conclusion of the 2026 Super League season. Cartwright took the reins ahead of the 2025 campaign and has since led the team to a seventh-place finish in his inaugural year, with the club currently sitting ninth in the 2026 standings with three wins and four losses after seven rounds. During his tenure, Cartwright has overseen 39 games, securing 19 victories. Initially contracted until the end of the 2027 season, the club has opted to release him from his contract a year early. Richie Myler, Hull's CEO, expressed his gratitude to Cartwright, stating that he played a pivotal role in restoring stability and competitiveness to the team. Cartwright will continue to lead the squad for the remainder of the season, with the club's full support. Meanwhile, Hull FC is in the process of securing a new head coach for the 2027 Super League season and will provide updates in due course. Reports suggest that the club has formally approached Steve McNamara, former Catalans Dragons head coach and current Warrington Wolves assistant coach, who previously played for Hull FC from 1989 to 1996.
