Brundle: Russell Must View Antonelli as a Formidable Title Rival

According to Martin Brundle, George Russell should consider his Mercedes teammate Kimi Antonelli as a significant threat, akin to Lewis Hamilton at the height of his career, as the two drivers engage in an intense title battle. Despite Mercedes' strong start to the season, with three consecutive wins, Antonelli surprisingly holds a nine-point lead over Russell. The 19-year-old Italian has been fortunate, with a timely safety car at the Japanese Grand Prix allowing him to overtake Russell and secure his second successive victory. Russell, who was favored to win the title before the season began, must now reassess his strategy. Brundle noted that Russell should be more concerned after three races than he was at the beginning of the season, given Antonelli's impressive performance. The young Italian driver has demonstrated his ability to bounce back from setbacks, including a major crash during the opening weekend of the season. While Mercedes chief Toto Wolff has downplayed Antonelli's championship chances, Brundle believes Russell's experience will ultimately give him an edge. However, he has been impressed by Antonelli's pace and thinks Russell must treat him as a serious title contender.
