Lincoln City Achieves Historic Promotion to Championship After 65 Years

Lincoln City has secured a historic promotion to the Championship for the first time in 65 years, earning their spot with five games to spare following a thrilling 2-1 victory at Reading. The winning goal was scored by Jack Moylan in stoppage time, marking an incredible turnaround for the Imps, who were in non-League just nine years ago. Under the leadership of Michael Skubala, Lincoln City has been on an unbeaten streak of 24 matches and currently holds a 12-point lead over second-placed Cardiff in League One. This promotion makes Lincoln the first team in the EFL to earn a spot in the second tier this season. The team's stoppage-time win at Reading brings their total League One victories to 27, a feat only surpassed in the 1975/76 and 1951/52 EFL campaigns. The Imps got off to a strong start, with Ryan One scoring in the fifth minute, but Reading equalized in the second minute of stoppage time through a Lewis Wing free-kick. However, Moylan's winner four minutes later sealed the deal for Lincoln. The team's well-drilled defense held strong against Reading's attacks, with the home team unable to make any headway. Lincoln City boss Michael Skubala expressed his team's desire to win the title, stating, 'We want to win the title, the lads have said that they definitely want to win it. It's going to be tough, but let's go and get that done as well.' The team will look to continue their winning streak as they face Leyton Orient on Saturday.
