Leeds Reach the Top of Super League After Defeating Bradford

Following their 24-12 victory over Bradford, Leeds have taken the top spot in the league table, marking their first encounter in the Betfred Super League in 12 years. The two west Yorkshire rivals last met in the initial stages of the 2019 Betfred Challenge Cup, with this Good Friday clash being the first of three meetings scheduled for 2026. The Rhinos now share the top position with another team after Wigan Warriors suffered a surprising 34-24 loss to St Helens Saints earlier on Good Friday. Since their last Super League appearance in 2014, Bradford has faced significant challenges, but they showed promise when Waqa Blake scored the opening try, courtesy of a well-placed kick by Rowan Milnes. However, Milnes missed the conversion, one of three unsuccessful kicks in the first half, and Leeds struggled to break through the hosts' defense before James McDonnell recovered his own kick. Jake Connor successfully converted, but the Bulls maintained an 8-6 lead at halftime, thanks to Caleb Aekins' impressive run and Connor Wynne's try. Milnes missed another penalty, and the Rhinos gained momentum in the second half. A series of quick passes led to Jack Bird scoring a try, and after Connor missed a wide shot, Ash Handley scored the most impressive try of the evening with a solo effort showcasing his agility, strength, and speed. Connor added the extras and later scored a penalty, putting Leeds in a more commanding position. Cooper Jenkins' converted try sealed the win, making Aekins' late effort a mere consolation. This season, Sky Sports will broadcast every Super League game live, including two exclusive matches per round and the remaining five matches on Sky Sports+.
