Ben Stokes Encourages Players to Prove Themselves in County Championship

England Test captain Ben Stokes is urging players to seize the opportunity to push for international selection in the upcoming County Championship, describing it as a prime chance to showcase their skills. Stokes, who is currently recovering from facial surgery, will likely miss the start of the County Championship season with Durham. Despite England's disappointing 4-1 loss to Australia in The Ashes, Stokes remains confident in the talent available for Test team spots, calling it 'unquestionable.' England's first Test series of the summer is against New Zealand, beginning on June 4, followed by a three-Test series against Pakistan starting on August 19. Stokes emphasized the importance of the first six or seven weeks of Championship cricket, encouraging players to use this period to make a strong case for selection. He also expressed his optimism about the talent coming through the system, citing the England Lions' performance in Australia. Stokes, who suffered a broken cheekbone and facial injuries during a net session in February, has deemed his operation a success but will have to wait for specialist clearance to resume playing. He hopes to return to action in May, ahead of England's first Test against New Zealand, and plans to play for Durham in the One-Day Cup this summer.
