Luke Donald to Lead Team Europe in 2027 Ryder Cup: Key Details and Schedule

The anticipation is building for the landmark 100th anniversary of the Ryder Cup. When and where will the highly anticipated showdown between Team Europe and Team USA take place? Here's a comprehensive guide to the 2027 tournament, airing live on Sky Sports. The dates for the next Ryder Cup have been confirmed as September 17-19, 2027. The inaugural tournament was held in Massachusetts back in 1927, where Team USA secured a 9.5-2.5 victory over a Great Britain side, marking the centenary edition in 2027. The event will be hosted at the prestigious Adare Manor in County Limerick, Ireland. Located on the banks of the River Maigue, the course underwent extensive renovations in 2017 and has previously hosted the Irish Open in 2007 and 2008, as well as the JP McManus Pro-Am in 2005, 2010, and 2022. This will be Ireland's second time hosting the competition, following the 2006 event. Europe is the current title holder, having clinched a remarkable 15-13 win in New York, their first victory on American soil since the '2012 Miracle at Medinah.' They also emerged victorious in the 2023 contest in Rome. Luke Donald has been appointed as Team Europe's captain, making him the first golfer since Bernard Gallacher to lead the team in three consecutive Ryder Cups. Initially, Donald was assigned the captaincy for the 2023 contest after Henrik Stenson's removal due to his involvement with LIV Golf. Following the success in Rome, Donald led the team to a record-breaking week in New York. As the former world No 1, he joins Tony Jacklin as the only European captain to have won both home and away Ryder Cups. Now, Donald has the opportunity to become the first European captain to secure three consecutive Ryder Cup victories. Keegan Bradley captained the 2025 contest in New York, while the captain for the next edition is expected to be announced early next year. Tiger Woods, an eight-time Ryder Cup player and past playing-captain for Team USA in the 2019 Presidents Cup, was initially favored for the role but has ruled himself out due to health and wellbeing concerns. Woods recently announced that he would be taking a break from golf. Europe has dominated the last seven home editions of the Ryder Cup, with an unbeaten streak dating back to 1993. The 2027 Ryder Cup will feature 28 matches played over three days, under three different match play formats: foursomes, fourballs, and singles. Foursomes involve two golfers from each team competing, with teammates alternating shots and using one ball. Four matches are played on Friday and Saturday mornings. Fourballs also feature two golfers from each team, but each player uses their own ball, with the lowest score counting towards the team's score. The final day consists of singles matches, where each European team member competes against an American opponent in a head-to-head contest. Sky Sports will exclusively broadcast all three days of the 2027 tournament. A four-year partnership extension ensures that Sky Sports and NOW will remain the home of the Ryder Cup and DP World Tour until at least 2029 in the UK and Ireland, covering the 2027 and 2029 Ryder Cups. Tune in to Sky Sports Golf next September to watch the Ryder Cup live. Alternatively, stream the event with no contract on NOW.
