Historic Feat: Sinner Claims Miami Open Title Without Dropping a Set

In a groundbreaking achievement, Jannik Sinner emerged victorious at the Miami Open, becoming the first player since Roger Federer in 2017 to achieve the 'Sunshine Double' without losing a single set. Sinner defeated Jiri Lehecka with a score of 6-4, 6-4, marking his triumph as the first player to win both Indian Wells and Miami in the same season without dropping a set. Throughout the match, Sinner demonstrated exceptional skill, winning 92 per cent of his first-serve points and successfully saving all three break points he faced. This victory extends his winning streak to 34 consecutive sets at the ATP Masters 1000 level and improves his 2026 record to 19-2. Following his win, Sinner expressed his happiness and relief, stating, 'We did a lot of work to be in this position, so I'm really happy, and I'm also happy to go back home now.' He also reflected on his historic 'Sunshine Double', saying, 'Making it here for the first time, it's incredible. It's something I would have never thought, because it's difficult to achieve, and we made it somehow, so I'm very happy.' As the world No 2, Sinner joins an elite group of only eight men who have won back-to-back titles at Indian Wells and Miami. The 24-year-old Italian, who secured his first Indian Wells crown by defeating Daniil Medvedev last week, overcame a lengthy rain delay to claim his second Miami title. Lehecka lost his serve for the first time in the tournament, trailing 3-1 in the opening set, and saved two set points at 5-3 down before Sinner served out to take the set in 47 minutes. Despite an 80-minute play suspension early in the second set, Sinner's clinical performance remained unaffected, as he did not face a break point and swept through the second set to secure the title in 93 minutes. This achievement solidifies Sinner's position among tennis legends, including Novak Djokovic, Andre Agassi, and Pete Sampras, who have also won Indian Wells and Miami back-to-back. Sinner's relentless dominance has earned him 17 consecutive wins in Masters events, 12 consecutive wins, and 24 consecutive sets won. He has now won 34 of his last 36 matches and secured his second Miami title. Tim Henman praised Sinner's performance, saying, 'An incredible performance and it's just been relentless. He gets the lead and is just relentless in all aspects of his game. He's a worthy, worthy champion.' Former Wimbledon champion Marion Bartoli also commended Sinner, stating, 'He has so much trust in his team and the understanding that he wants to stay at the top of the game. He has to keep on improving all the time because when you stay still, you actually go backwards.' As a seven-time ATP Masters 1000 champion, Sinner now trails world No 1 Carlos Alcaraz by 1,190 points in the ATP Live Rankings, making a significant statement this month.
