Hodgkinson Teases West Ham Over Potential World Championships Dispute

British track and field athletes Keely Hodgkinson and Dina Asher-Smith have playfully criticized West Ham after reports surfaced that the club might block the 2029 World Athletics Championships from being held at the London Stadium. The issue stems from the club's reluctance to relinquish control of the stadium for the required duration. Hodgkinson, an Olympic gold and silver medalist in the 800 meters and recent winner of the World Indoor Championships, jokingly pointed out on social media that the GB team would likely bring home more medals than West Ham has in its entire history. Asher-Smith, a three-time Olympic medalist and 2019 World Championships 200 meters gold medalist, also took to social media, urging West Ham to support the event. She posted, 'Literally at the Olympic Park today to kickstart something ahead of London 2028/29. West Ham, please don't obstruct us.' The London Stadium, originally built for the 2012 Olympics, has hosted numerous iconic athletic events, including the 2017 World Championships, and continues to serve as the home of West Ham United Football Club.
