PSG's Ligue 1 Match Against Lens Rescheduled to Aid Champions League Preparation

The French football league has officially rescheduled the upcoming match between Paris Saint-Germain and RC Lens, initially set for April 11, to May 13, in an effort to alleviate fixture congestion for the French champions ahead of their Champions League quarter-final ties against Liverpool. This decision aims to provide PSG with a more favorable schedule, as the original date fell between their two Champions League matches against the English champions. Lens had expressed opposition to the change, deeming it 'unsportsmanlike' and citing the significant gap in their schedule, which would see them not playing competitively for 15 days, followed by a series of matches every three days. Despite Lens' objections, Ligue 1's board unanimously agreed to the postponement, also delaying Strasbourg's game to support both teams' European preparations. The decision is believed to be in the best interest of French football, as it may enhance the country's coefficient ranking for the upcoming season. The president and CEO of PSG abstained from voting, while Lens' president stated he had no issues with the postponement beforehand. An official statement from PSG noted that this rescheduling would allow the two French clubs still competing in European competitions to prepare optimally for their forthcoming fixtures.
