Rybakina Overcomes Pegula to Advance to Miami Semi-Finals

Elena Rybakina secured a spot in the Miami Open semi-finals for the third time, defeating Jessica Pegula in a closely contested three-set match on Wednesday. The No 3 seed triumphed over the No 5 seed Pegula, winning 2-6 6-3 6-4 in a match that lasted two hours and 15 minutes. This marks Rybakina's fifth consecutive victory over Pegula in the past seven months. Rybakina will now face either world No 1 Aryna Sabalenka or Hailey Baptiste in the next round. Following the match, Rybakina stated, "Matches against Jessica are always extremely challenging. She started strong, and I was initially frustrated, but I'm pleased I could regain my composure and turn the match around in the second set. We had a fierce battle, and the early break gave me an edge." Rybakina initially struggled, committing 12 unforced errors in the opening set, which Pegula dominated, taking a 4-0 lead. A pivotal moment occurred in the second set when Pegula failed to capitalize on three break points at 2-2, allowing Rybakina to seize momentum and claim the set. Rybakina went on to win the deciding set, finishing the match with 15 aces, despite winning only 98 points to Pegula's 100.
