Emma Raducanu Set to Kick Off Clay-Court Season in Linz Following Miami Open Withdrawal

Emma Raducanu is poised to commence her 2026 clay-court campaign in Linz, Austria, at the Upper Austria Ladies Linz, a WTA 500 event that has transitioned to indoor clay for this year's edition. The tournament, scheduled to take place from April 6-12, will feature Raducanu among its seeded players. This commitment comes as Raducanu has chosen to prioritize her tennis schedule, opting not to participate in Great Britain's Billie Jean King Cup match against Australia, a decision echoed by fellow British players Katie Boulter and Fran Jones. According to Anne Keothavong, speaking on Sky Sports, 'It's a challenging time of year to be traveling back to Australia, given it marks the beginning of the clay-court season for most players.' Keothavong acknowledged that while players take immense pride in representing their country, they must also consider their individual tennis careers and health. Recently, Raducanu partnered with Japanese manufacturer Uniqlo as a brand ambassador, following the conclusion of her association with Nike. Uniqlo stated on Instagram, 'Emma will champion UNIQLO's LifeWear philosophy, which is dedicated to pursuing excellence, making meaningful contributions to society, and empowering the next generation.' Raducanu expressed her enthusiasm, stating, 'UNIQLO and I share many values and perspectives on life, culture, and society. I am excited to promote LifeWear through my tennis career and to work with everybody at UNIQLO to inspire and engage young people everywhere.' Currently ranked No 23 in the WTA rankings, with a career-high of No 10 in July 2022, Raducanu holds a 7-7 record in 2026. Her year has been marked by a mixed start, with a notable runner-up finish at the WTA 250 event in Cluj-Napoca in February. News emerged in January that Raducanu is seeking her 10th coach in five years, after parting ways with Francis Roig due to her early Australian Open exit. Since her breakthrough at Wimbledon in 2021 and her US Open victory the same year, Raducanu has had several coaching changes, with the longest tenure being 13 months. Her coaching history includes Nigel Sears, Andrew Richardson, Torben Beltz, Dmitry Tursunov, Sebastian Sachs, Nick Cavaday, Vlado Platenik, Mark Petchey, and Francisco Roig. Raducanu made her return to competitive tennis in the United Cup in January but suffered a loss to Maria Sakkari, revealing she had been unable to play for two and a half months due to injury. Her preparations for the Australian Open were further hindered by a quarter-final loss at the Hobart International, although she made a winning start at Melbourne Park. Seeded 28th at the Australian Open, Raducanu overcame Mananchaya Sawangkaew in the first round but was defeated by Anastasia Potapova in the second round. Raducanu missed the opportunity to secure her first title since the 2021 US Open after losing to Sorana Cirstea in the Transylvania Open final. She then retired from her first-round match at the Qatar Open due to illness and lost in the opening round at the Dubai Tennis Championships. At Indian Wells, Raducanu was defeated by Amanda Anisimova after breezing past Anastasia Zakharova. Following this, she withdrew from the Miami Open due to post-viral symptoms. To date, Raducanu's sole major tournament victory remains her 2021 US Open win. She reached the fourth round at Wimbledon in 2021 and 2024 but has not progressed beyond the third round at the Australian and French Opens.
