Sinner Shatters Djokovic's Record with Dominant Win in Miami

Italian tennis star Jannik Sinner has made history at the Miami Open, breaking Novak Djokovic's record for most consecutive sets won at the ATP Masters 1000 level. Sinner achieved this feat with a convincing 6-1, 6-4 victory over Corentin Moutet in the third round, which lasted just 71 minutes. This win sets up a fourth-round clash against American Alex Michelsen. Sinner's 26 consecutive sets won surpasses Djokovic's previous record of 24, set in 2016. Following his victory, Sinner expressed his happiness and acknowledged the unpredictability of the sport, emphasizing the need to stay focused. He arrived at the tournament on the back of winning the Paris Masters in November and the Indian Wells Masters without dropping a set, initially equalling Djokovic's record in his second-round win. Sinner now has the opportunity to extend his record against Michelsen, who came back from a set down to defeat Alejandro Tabilo 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. A win for Sinner would bring him closer to achieving the 'Sunshine Double', last accomplished by Roger Federer in 2017, and potentially narrow the gap with Carlos Alcaraz in the world No 1 rankings. Other notable results include Frances Tiafoe's dramatic tie-break win over defending champion Jakub Mensik, saving two match points to secure a 7-6, 4-6, 7-6(11) victory. Tiafoe will face Terence Atmane in the fourth round, who earlier upset Felix Auger-Aliassime 6-3, 1-6, 6-3. Third seed Alexander Zverev defeated Marin Cilic 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 and will face Quentin Halys next, while Francisco Cerundolo advanced to the fourth round with a 6-0, 4-6, 7-5 win over Daniil Medvedev.
