Ben White Returns to England Squad After Three-Year Absence

Arsenal's Ben White has been recalled to the England national team, replacing the injured Jarell Quansah, while Harvey Barnes has also earned a late call-up in place of Eberechi Eze. White's return comes over a year after he last featured for the Three Lions, following a reported dispute with then-assistant coach Steve Holland during the Qatar World Cup. The defender had made himself available for selection again after discussions with current boss Thomas Tuchel. White has played only seven Premier League games this season, totaling 411 minutes, but has been given another chance to prove himself. Barnes, meanwhile, had turned down the opportunity to play for Scotland just a month ago and now has a chance to regain his place in the England setup. The Newcastle winger has one previous cap for England, earned in a friendly against Wales in October 2020. The updated England squad includes goalkeepers Dean Henderson, Jordan Pickford, James Trafford, Aaron Ramsdale, and Jason Steele. Defenders include Dan Burn, Marc Guehi, Lewis Hall, Ezri Konsa, Tino Livramento, Harry Maguire, Nico O'Reilly, Ben White, Djed Spence, John Stones, and Fikayo Tomori. Midfielders are Elliot Anderson, Jude Bellingham, James Garner, Jordan Henderson, Kobbie Mainoo, Declan Rice, Morgan Rogers, and Adam Wharton. Forwards include Jarrod Bowen, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Harvey Barnes, Phil Foden, Anthony Gordon, Harry Kane, Noni Madueke, Cole Palmer, Marcus Rashford, Bukayo Saka, and Dominic Solanke. Eleven players will join the squad after Friday's game against Uruguay.
