Additionally, Merson defended Newcastle boss Eddie Howe, who has faced scrutiny after a Champions League exit and a derby defeat to Sunderland. Merson pointed out that Howe won a trophy for the club last season and that the team's struggles are partly due to injuries and questionable signings, such as Yoane Wissa.
