Lin Yu-ting Cleared to Compete in World Boxing Events After Undergoing Sex Test

Olympic champion Lin Yu-ting is set to make her return to World Boxing competitions after being deemed eligible to compete following a thorough review of her sex eligibility. The 30-year-old Taiwanese boxer was at the center of a heated debate over gender eligibility at the 2024 Paris Games, where she and Algerian boxer Imane Khelif both won gold medals. Lin and Khelif had been disqualified from the 2023 World Championships by the International Boxing Association, but after the International Olympic Committee took over the competition, they were allowed to participate. The newly formed governing body, World Boxing, introduced a sex eligibility policy that requires all fighters to undergo a genetic test to determine the presence of a Y chromosome. Following an appeal from Taiwan's boxing federation, World Boxing has announced that Lin is eligible to compete, starting with the Asian Boxing Championships in Mongolia. Although the results of Lin's test were not disclosed, World Boxing confirmed her eligibility to compete in the female category, praising her approach to the appeal process and her acknowledgement of the governing body's requirements. Lin and Khelif have not competed in official international events since the Olympics, but Khelif has expressed her willingness to take the sex test to defend her Olympic title at the 2028 Los Angeles Games.
