Redknapp Condemns VAR's Failure to Act on Havertz Penalty Claim as 'Appalling'

Former footballer Jamie Redknapp has strongly criticized VAR for not intervening after Kai Havertz was denied a penalty during Arsenal's 2-0 victory over Everton, calling the decision 'appalling'. The incident occurred in the 23rd minute when Michael Keane made a clumsy challenge on Havertz, which was overlooked by referee Andy Madley and swiftly dismissed by VAR official Stuart Attwell. As Havertz entered the Everton area, Keane trod on the back of his foot while they were grappling. Sky Sports commentator Alan Smith expressed surprise that the officials took so little time to examine the incident and clear it of any wrongdoing. Redknapp stated at halftime, 'It's crystal clear. How can VAR take only three seconds to decide that's not a penalty? That's a terrible decision. It's definitely a penalty and should be overturned.' He added, 'Sometimes VAR makes decisions that everyone at home can see are incorrect, and it takes five minutes. They've taken three seconds to say it's not a penalty, which is absolutely appalling.'
