Neville Urges Manchester United to Sign Top Midfielders

Manchester United legend Gary Neville has emphasized the need for his former club to acquire at least two high-quality central midfielders during the upcoming summer transfer window. Neville's comments come after United's 3-1 win over Aston Villa, which solidified their third-place position and brought them closer to Champions League qualification. However, Neville warned that the team requires reinforcements to handle the more demanding fixture schedule that comes with playing in the Champions League. Currently, Michael Carrick relies on a midfield duo of Kobbie Mainoo and Casemiro, but with Casemiro set to leave at the end of the season, alternative options are limited. Neville stressed that United needs a midfielder similar to Michael Carrick, who can control the tempo of the game, and a destroyer who can break up opposition attacks. The club's priority is to sign top central midfielders, with players like Nottingham Forest's Elliot Anderson, Crystal Palace's Adam Wharton, and Brighton's Carlos Baleba being considered. Additionally, United are looking at younger prospects such as Lille's Ayyoub Bouaddi and Olympiakos' Christos Mouzakitis. Neville also expressed concerns about the team's defense, particularly the fitness issues plaguing key players like Matthijs de Ligt and Lisandro Martinez. He questioned whether left-back Luke Shaw could cope with the demands of playing week in, week out if United qualifies for the Champions League. Neville believes that while Shaw is an excellent left-back, the team may need to find someone to share the workload and prevent burnout. Despite Casemiro's impressive performances this season, Neville thinks it is right for United to let him go at the end of the season, citing the player's age and the need for the club to move forward.
