Eddie Jones: Firing Steve Borthwick Would Be Unwise for England

Ex-England coach Eddie Jones believes it would be unwise to sack Steve Borthwick despite the team's disappointing Guinness Six Nations campaign. England finished fifth in the standings after a thrilling 48-46 loss to France, with their only win coming against Wales in the first round. The Rugby Football Union is set to review England's worst Six Nations performance in history, but Borthwick still has the backing of his players and RFU CEO Bill Sweeney. Jones, who worked with Borthwick as an assistant coach from 2015 to 2022, thinks now is not the time for another coaching change as England prepares for the Nations Championship and the 2027 World Cup. "Steve has done a good job with England," Jones said in a podcast. "He had a bad tournament, but I'm sure he can turn it around." Jones believes Borthwick is the right man to lead England and thinks the RFU should support him. Former World Cup winner Will Greenwood also expects England to stick with Borthwick, citing his ability to beat top sides, but notes that the team's inability to win consistently against top opponents is a concern.
