Scotland Names Squad for 2026 Six Nations with Gray and Cherry Returning

Gregor Townsend, Scotland's head coach, has announced the 40-man squad for the upcoming 2026 Six Nations, featuring the return of lock Jonny Gray and hooker Dave Cherry. The team, consisting of 23 forwards and 17 backs, will be captained by Glasgow centre Sione Tuipulotu throughout the campaign, starting with the match against Italy in Rome on February 7. Gray, who missed the Autumn Nations Series last year, is back in the squad, as is Cherry, who impressed with Vannes in France's Pro D2. The squad also includes seasoned players like Ewan Ashman, George Turner, and Jamie Ritchie. Finn Russell will lead the fly-halves, supported by Adam Hastings and Fergus Burke. Notably, Townsend has chosen not to introduce any new players to the squad. Following their opener in Rome, Scotland will face England in the Calcutta Cup match, then travel to Wales, host defending champions France, and finally play against Ireland in Dublin. Townsend explained the return of Gray and Cherry, citing their experience and form. "Dave's been in really good form this year. He played very well last year's Six Nations. He was a bit of a glue player for us around his set-piece and in attack and defence," he said. Townsend also discussed the decision not to include uncapped Gregor Hiddleston in the main squad, opting instead to give him an opportunity in the A game against Italy. The squad's forwards include Ewan Ashman, Josh Bayliss, and Grant Gilchrist, while the backs feature Fergus Burke, Jamie Dobie, and Finn Russell.
