WBC Awaits Details of Usyk's Title Defence

Mauricio Sulaiman, the WBC president, has stated that Deontay Wilder is more than welcome to challenge Oleksandr Usyk for his WBC title, amidst rumors of an impending fight announcement. Usyk is expected to defend his WBC, IBF, and WBA heavyweight titles against Wilder, who is currently ranked 13th by the WBC, in his first title defence since defeating Daniel Dubois at Wembley in July. The WBC has approved Usyk's request for a voluntary title defence against one of its top 15 contenders. Sulaiman expressed his enthusiasm for seeing Wilder back in the ring, highlighting the American's punching power and five-year reign as WBC champion. Usyk has expressed his desire to face Wilder in the United States, a bout that he believes would bolster his legacy. Wilder previously held the WBC title before losing it to Tyson Fury in a 2020 rematch. Usyk has stated that he wants to fight in America and views a match against Wilder as a matter of sporting interest, having already beaten Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury twice.
