Raducanu Expresses Disappointment with Australian Open Schedule

Emma Raducanu has voiced her discontent with the Australian Open's scheduling, which has left her with a tight turnaround to prepare for the tournament. The British No 1 arrived in Melbourne on Friday after reaching the quarter-finals of the Hobart International and is set to begin her campaign on Sunday against Thailand's Mananchaya Sawangkaew. Raducanu has been scheduled for the second night session slot on Margaret Court Arena, which may result in a late start. She stated, "It's very difficult. You would love to have more time in the environment, more time practising, but I guess I was pretty much handed the schedule to try and turn it around and make the most out of what is in front of me." Raducanu also expressed her concerns about being scheduled to play after a potential five-set match, saying it "doesn't really make much sense." The 23-year-old has been dealing with physical issues during pre-season, including a foot injury that limited her time on court. Despite this, Raducanu is focusing on making the most of her situation and is looking forward to her match against Sawangkaew, who is ranked 195 and making her grand slam debut. In other news, Venus Williams is set to make her first Australian Open appearance in five years, becoming the oldest woman to compete in the main draw at Melbourne Park.
