Manchester United Set for Further Talks with Michael Carrick Over Interim Coach Role

Manchester United is engaged in extensive discussions with Michael Carrick regarding the position of interim head coach. Following his impressive presentation to the club's hierarchy, Carrick is now the leading candidate to take on the role for the remainder of the season. Additional talks with Carrick and his representatives are scheduled for Monday, while no such discussions are planned with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at present. Although no final decision has been made, Solskjaer remains a potential option. The club aims to appoint an interim coach by the end of Tuesday, allowing them to oversee training on Wednesday and prepare for the Manchester derby on January 17. Over the past few days, both Carrick and Solskjaer have met with Jason Wilcox, United's director of football, to discuss their candidacy for the position. Carrick's plans for the remainder of the season reportedly made a strong impression on the club's bosses, but Solskjaer's popularity during his previous stint as head coach is also being considered. With the club's focus now solely on the Premier League, the new interim head coach will prioritize qualifying for European football next season. The current interim head coach, Darren Fletcher, has reached the end of his agreed period in charge and will report to the Carrington Training Centre on Monday to determine his next role.
