Eilish McColgan Reclaims European 10km Record

Britain's Eilish McColgan has reclaimed the European women's 10km record, just a week after losing it to Belgium's Jana Van Lent. McColgan shaved three seconds off Van Lent's time, finishing in 30 minutes and seven seconds at the Valencia Ibercaja event. This achievement comes after McColgan held the record for over three years with a time of 30:19, set in Manchester in 2022, before Van Lent surpassed it by nine seconds in Nice on January 4. Following her record-breaking win, McColgan expressed her pride, stating, "I'm really proud of myself. Crossing the finish line was an emotional moment, given the long journey to get back to this level. It's a special race to be part of." McColgan revealed her aspirations to return to Valencia and attempt to run sub-30, as well as potentially participating in the half-marathon and marathon in the future. The current world record for the 10km distance is held by Agnes Ngetich, who ran 28:46 in Valencia in 2024. McColgan's notable track medals include gold in the 10,000m and silver in the 5,000m at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, along with three European Championship medals.
