Rosenior Secures First Win as Chelsea Overcome Charlton in FA Cup Clash
Liam Rosenior marked his debut as Chelsea's head coach with a 5-1 victory over Charlton in the FA Cup third round. In his pre-match press conference, Rosenior urged fans to judge him based on performances and results. He opted for a youthful starting lineup, and his team dominated the ball and applied pressure around the Charlton area throughout the first half. Charlton's goalkeeper, Will Mannion, made his second appearance of the season and was tested, but the home team's low block frustrated Chelsea. The breakthrough came in the fourth minute of first-half injury time when Moises Caicedo's cross was cleared into Jorrel Hato's path, and he scored with a ferocious shot. Chelsea added another goal five minutes after the break, courtesy of Facundo Buonanotte's free-kick, which Tosin Adarabioyo headed home. Charlton reduced the deficit soon after, but Chelsea restored their two-goal lead when Alejandro Garnacho found Buonanotte, whose weak shot was parried into Marc Guiu's path, and he slotted home. Charlton had a late penalty shout turned down, but Chelsea were awarded a spot kick in the dying moments, which Enzo Fernandez powered into the net to seal the win. Despite a spirited performance from Charlton, their dismal run in the FA Cup third round continues, having exited at this stage for six consecutive seasons. Rosenior expressed his delight with the win, praising his players' quality and noting that it's just the beginning. Charlton manager Nathan Jones was disappointed with the second and third goals, which he described as 'schoolboy' errors.
