Celtic Fires Manager Wilfried Nancy After Disappointing Run

Celtic has terminated the contract of manager Wilfried Nancy after a dismal run of six defeats in eight games. Nancy's tenure lasted just 33 days, during which the team struggled to find form. His departure follows a 3-1 home loss to Rangers, and he will be replaced by Martin O'Neill on an interim basis until the end of the season. O'Neill will be assisted by Shaun Maloney and Mark Fotheringham, as he was during his previous stint. Nancy's assistants, including Kwame Ampadu, Jules Gueguen, and Maxime Chalier, have also left the club, along with head of football operations Paul Tisdale. The 48-year-old Nancy had signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with the Scottish champions last month, joining from Major League Soccer side Columbus Crew. However, his attempt to change the team's style of play to a 3-4-3 formation did not yield the desired results, and the team suffered a series of losses, including a 3-1 defeat by St Mirren in the Scottish League Cup final and a 2-1 loss away to Dundee United. The team's poor form under Nancy was in stark contrast to their performance under interim manager Martin O'Neill, who had led the team to seven wins in eight games. Sky Sports' Chris Sutton criticized Nancy's rigid approach, stating that he was 'fixated on changing Celtic's style' and 'wasn't adaptable.' Sutton also pointed out that the team's problems ran deeper than Nancy's management, citing issues with player quality and recruitment. With the league title still up for grabs, Celtic has acted decisively to replace Nancy, but the team now faces pressure to strengthen its squad in January.
